Blueberry Gelato
Welcome to my first ever gelato experience. Yes, you heard correctly I’ve never had gelato before until now. I’ve been slacking behind on the whole posting up stuff so as I was out with my friends the other evening I had only $4, and a hankering for something cold. Solution: Get your gelato-ignorant butt off the metaphorical couch and get some gelato!
Sadly, I wasn’t very pleased… I know, a bad review from ETconeshomes. Don’t get me wrong, this stuff really tasted like blueberries. But it mostly tasted like blueberry seeds. Maybe it was the lack of butterfat that I love so much in ice cream, or the fact that I got blueberry gelato and not something more creamier, I don’t know. Like I said, I’ve been a gelato virgin my whole life until the other day. But on the plus side this treat definitely helped cool me down after this heat wave the US has been experiencing.
Also, I’m realizing that this is more or less turning into a blueberry frozen treat blog… Sorry, I just have a thing for those B-Berries.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream’s italian cousin, Gelato.

39cents per ounce
Vanilla soft serve yogurt - Strawberry soft serve yogurt- Blueberries - Rainbow jimmies/sprinkles
Okay yeah, I get it. It’s been awhile. Far to long in fact. But I’m trying my best to keep you up dated on these delicious frozen treats. What with the summer kicking into full force now, I gotta step up my game. But I have been busy, take this for example…
I spent the weekend in NY and while in the East Villiage I went to this place called Yogurt Station. You grab a cup, go over to the 8 or so soft serve levers, pick you flavor with as much ice cream as you want, plop some toppings on it, and BAM! Now, how do you decipher how much to pay you ask? It’s simple, you put it on a scale and pay 39cents for each ounce.
It’s a pretty dope deal and it’s not too bad of soft serve yogurt. Not to mention they have a whole bunch of toppings and only 1 size cup that fits 16oz.
The combo that you see here is kinda similar to the Berry-Overload Super Fruit Sundae I made before (see May 17th post) but in a more simple yogurt form. This time around though I used actual blueberries, which were great at first, but as time went on the cold ice cream started to freeze the blueberries a bit towards the end.
To quote my friend “The trick is to put the Captain Crunch on top, because its the lightest of all the toppings so you pay less.”

Fool’s Gold
Caramel Ice Cream - Chocolate bits- Crushed chocolate swirl
I had quite the adventure this weekend as I trekked up to Durham, NH to visit my cousin this weekend. After going to school in Boston is always cool to see how other colleges function, you know like actual college campuses with college related stores all over the place. My cousin and his girlfriend brought me to a little train depot that served as a food vending services where they sold ice cream! Huzzah! Just what I needed for my blog!
I got this stuff called fool’s gold. It was a caramel based ice cream which was interesting to try. Unlike regular caramel that you put on your ice cream, it had the same after taste, but much creamier (one would expect that). I’m also not the biggest chocolate fan, and there was a whole lot in there, but it worked well with the over load of the caramel taste.
My cousin and his girlfriend did get a cool brownie sundae with graham cracker ice cream. Wish I took a picture of that… oh well.

Baby Cone
Strawberry Ice Cream - Sampler Wafer cone
Disclaimer: Just because it’s called a baby cone, doesn’t mean it’s only for babies. These cones are perfect for babies, but they are also perfect for just having a little tiny cone of something. Sometimes I don’t have time/patience to eat a whole cone, so the baby ones are just a sweet.
We usually give the baby cones away for free for babies, but for everyone else who is not a baby, we would charge 75 cents. Teenagers who think they themselves are awesome like to get them cause they think they are super cool ordering small cones. In fact, it’s probably more expensive to just get a bunch of tiny cones.

Red Sox Sundae
Vanilla Soft Serve - Chocolate Syrup - Whipped Cream - Rainbow jimmies/sprinkles - Red Sox pride
Yes, I went to a Red Sox game last night. As I was in line to get a pretzel I saw they had “sundaes” so I just had to get one.
“Sundaes! Oh man I gotta get one and put it on my blog!”
Other than the fact that I was at a Sox game just eating ice cream and watching our team get pummeled, the ice cream was sub-par. It wasn’t like a great sundae with hot fudge and delicious whipped cream, just cold chocolate syrup, canned whipped cream, and a hurried pace that would make J.D. Drew impressed. But I wasn’t really expecting much, they have a lot of people to feed at those games and not a lot of time to do it. But it was still enjoyable.

Benzaquin on Ice
Blue Raspberry Ice Pop - Orange soda
I can’t say how this tasted because I didn’t actually try it. This was a conconction of my friend Lee’s the other night. It seems like a good idea, right? Kind of like a flavored ice cube. But then again I’m not to sure how well raspberry and orange go together… thoughts?

PBOreo Sundae
Oreo Ice Cream - Peanut Butter sauce - Marshmallow topping - real chocolate jimmies/sprinkles
A classic treat for all to enjoy: scooping your oreos into peanut butter. Now don’t you wish there were an ice cream for that? Here is my solution, the PBOreo Sundae. While just the PB sauce and oreo ice cream is delicious, there needs to be more. Other wise your mouth gets kinda sticky, I mean you cant just eat a PB sandwich on your own can you? You need something to wash it down, perhaps a glass of milk. Hence, the marshmallow topping. And of course some jimmies/sprinkles (call them what you will) on top. And these aren’t any kind of jimmies/sprinkles, they’re made of real chocolate and are like 3x better.
I don’t really have much to say about this other than it’s really good and you should try it. So do it already, try it.

Luigi’s Real Italian Ice
Lemon flavored
Boston in the summer = muggy as hell (if it wasn’t filled with flames, but gross weather)
There’s only one cure to this predicament, Italian Ice! I’m sure there are other cures, but this definitely will help. Unlike ice cream, italian ice is just very cool and refreshing because its so light. I’d prefer something like this (or slush) on a muggy day over ice cream. My throat would just get too sticky and wouldn’t really help with the heat problem. Italian Ice just reminds me of days as a kid playing on the common/walking the lake and grabbing a slush to help cool me down. Who could have though that just adding flavor to shaved ice would be so great?

The Jaws Dropping Dish
Blue Vanilla Slush - Vanilla Soft Serve - Gummy Shark
How cool is this? So we always have these random gummy candies at the ice cream place (sharks, tigers, penguins, lobsters, etc.). Who would have thought that you can make so many different animals into gummy candies. And who decides what flavor an animal is going to be. For instance they have gummy tigers that are coke flavored, and sunny side up eggs that are peach flavored.
Here we have a shark, a blue raspberry flavored shark. I love these things, I could eat them all day. So I finally decided that I needed to do something with it, something deliciously cool. I needed a sea for the shark to swim in, since theres not really any blue ice cream, I used slush. But I couldn’t just leave a shark alone in a barren land of water, I needed a wave! But what goes well with slush to make a wave? Vanilla soft serve. No really, hear me out on this one. Especially with the blue and white vanilla combo, the soft serve creates almost a slushy parfait of sorts. Not not only does it look pretty cool, its actually tastes pretty cool too.

Baklava Ice Cream

Honey Ice Cream - Chopped up bits of Baklava

I know, weird, right? But you have to trust me on this one. Baklava is the claim to fame of the ice cream place I work at. We won best ice cream in New England according to Yankee Magazine and were featured on Chronicle and FOX’s zip trip to Wakefield this past summer. For the zip trip I had to get up at like 5am and set up at table on the common in my town as we handed out free ice cream at 6am to fox news fans of Wakefield. The cherry on top of this whole experience was that I was wearing a cow costume and handed out ice cream on my unicycle around the common (see photo). Needless to say I was the talk of the town… maybe… I don’t really talk with the town that much.

Anyways! Baklava! Yes! This stuff is really good. I think it makes Baklava so much better than just a pastry. The only issue I ever had with Baklava was that it was too try and sticky, I mean it’s just honey, phyllo dough, and nuts… something is missing. The honey ice cream adds just what I wanted. It makes it creamier, and the bits of actual baklava that are in it still give that great traditional greek pastry taste.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for the Greeks.
